Grigory Fabianovich GNESIN (1884 – 1938) was a Russian singer, drama actor, writer, and poet. He was friends with Vsevolod Meiehold, Korney Chukovsky, and Vladimir Mayakovsky. Since 1919, Grigory lived in Leningrad, where he ran a popular children radio show “Uncle Grisha Storytelling”, was director of Leningrad Capella Music Library, and authored librettos for several operas. Gnesin was arrested and executed in 1937 as “Latvian spy” by Stalin’s KGB.
