Photo by K. A. Fisher, Moscow, Russia, early 1900s 9.9 х 13.1 cm Yulius Federovich GEIS (Julius Ferdinand Heuß, or Heuss) (1832–1907) was the owner of the Moscow chocolate factory EINEM. Resident of Württemberg, Germany, Geis came to Russia when he was 22. In 1870 he became the co-owner of the Einem Chocolate Factory with Ferdinand Theodor von Einem, but in 1876 purchased out his share and became the full owner of the company. The products of Einem Chocolate Factory were awarded a gold medal for the assortment and quality at the Exposition Universelle (International Exposition) in Paris. The company had stores in Moscow, Riga, Nizhni Novgorod, and Simpheropol. After the Russian Communist Revolution of 1917, the company was appropriated by the government and renamed Red October (Krasny Oktyabr). C3588 GEIS, Yu. F. (Гейс Ю.Ф.)
