Nikolai Vasilievich SHELGUNOV (1824-1891) was an essayist and literary critic, who was active in the democratic and revolutionary movements in Russia in 1850-1860s. Shelgunov worked at literary and other magazines, including “Sovremennik,” “Russkoe slovo,” and “Dela.” In 1884, he was arrested for letting Russian emigrant revolutionaries to write in one of his magazines and was exiled to Smolensk province for five years.
