She studied violin and piano at the Lviv and then Viena conservatories, but in 1876 decided to focus on singing. In 1879, she started a career at the Dresden Opera, which she continued in London, and then in Paris and the U.S. Since 1889, Sembrich visited in St. Petersburg, Russia, where she was very popular.
