Panov, Moscow, Russia, 1870s 6.6 х 10.7 cm Anatolii Petrovich BOGDANOV (1834-1896) was one of the founders of Russian anthropology and first anthropological institutions in Russia, a zoologist and popular science writer, associate member of St. Petersburg Academy of Sciences (1890), and professor of Moscow University (from1867). Bogdanov established the Department of Zoology at Moscow University, which he headed; was lifetime director of Moscow Zoological Museum; and made a significant contribution to the establishment of several important institutions, such as the Politech Museum, the Zoological Garden (Moscow Zoo), as well as several scientific societies.
