Varvara Mikhailovna ZARUDNAIA (1857 - 1939) was an opera singer and a voice instructor. She was the wife of the composer and conductor M. M. Ippolitov-Ivanov. Mrs. Zarudnaia graduated from St. Petersburg Conservatory with a silver medal. While still a student, she sang at house parties of Rimsky-Korsakov, Balakirev, and Kui. After graduation, Zarudnaia sang in different cities, including in Irkutsks, Kazan, Kiyv, Tiflis, and others. From 1893 to 1924, Zarodnaia taught at Moscow Conservatory.
