Photo by Photography Studio of Imperial Theaters, 1890s (?) 10.7 х 16.3 cm Maria Ivanovna DOLINA (1868-1919) was a lead singer (contralto) of the Mariinsky Theater in St. Petersburg, Russia, and Soloist of His Majesty (1901). Since 1894, as part of her public work, she organized annual symphony concerts in St. Petersburg and Pavlovsk. Composers Rimsky-Korsakov and Glazunov wrote for Maria Dolina, and many others held her in high esteem, including Petr Tchaikovsky, Saint-Saëns, Leo Tolstoy, and Émile Zola.
