After graduation from the Corp of Railroad Engineers (1857), he worked for different railroad operations. In 1874-1876, the Vitebsk Railroad Station in St. Petersburg was reconstruction according to Bernatsky’s architectural plan. Mikhail Bernatsky was great-uncle of Russian poetess Marina Tsvetaeva.
