He graduated from St. Petersburg Naval Cadet Corps and became a naval officer in 1878 embarking on a round-the-world trip. Later, he left service and enrolled in St. Petersburg Conservatory, but was expelled. He then studied at Naples Conservator and for five subsequent years sang at the theaters in Italy, Spain, and Romania. In 1887—1907, Figner became a lead singer of the Imperial Theaters. He was the first one to sing German in Queen of Spades by Tchaikovsky and Vodemont in Iolanta. C4855 FIGNER, N. N. (Фигнер Н.Н.)
